open letter to my mum
This month is all about knowing ya girl a little bit better, and to understand me you have to know the person that made me who I am now: MY MOTHER.
My mum, the woman I love the most even despite her flaws, despite the distance. She is the woman I always miss, every hour of every day. My mom is the woman I didn’t appreciate enough until I arrived in England, because her smile fills my heart and her words always give me the strength I need.
My mum comes from Nigeria she lived in Italy for a long time, she had a lot of kids which she loved more than she loves herself. She always puts us first, even if it means sacrificing herself.
She made me the most open minded person in the world, because she is one of the most open minded people in this world. She does not judge anyone from their looks, she asks she listens and accept your explanation, whichever it is.
When I was 19 years old,I told her for the first time that I had a boyfriend, she looked at me and said “I thought you liked girls”. She had reasons to believe that, but no facts.
She was the person who took me to pierce my nose when I was 13. She was ecstatic when I first got a tattoo and even happier when I got a tattoo that symbolises her.
When I dyed my hair blue, she said: “It suits you better than your natural colour!”.
And I want to be like her, every step of the way. Because she is the best mum, she allowed me to make my mistakes and learn from them. She listened to me, and now she is the person I admire the most.
Thank you mum.
Take care of you babe.
